ANDERSON FAMILY EMIGRATION
CANYON NATURE AND WILDLIFE Preserve
Protected in 2002
Acreage: 73
Emigration Canyon, UT

Located up Emigration Canyon, Anderson Family Emigration Canyon Nature and Heritage Preserve provides significant viewshed along the Pioneer Memorial Scenic Backway located only ten minutes from Salt Lake City. Adjacent to the Wasatch-Cache National Forest, the Canyon is an historic part of the overland and Mormon Pioneer Trails, and the Anderson Family Emigration Canyon Nature and Heritage Preserve will aid in maintaining the nature and character of the area much as it was when early travelers ventured into the Valley. The southern exposed grassy slopes and meadows provide prey and habitat for raptors including golden eagles, red-tailed hawks, kestrels, falcons, Swainsons hawks and owls. The Preserve also provides migration corridors for big game species as well as critical winter range, which is quickly disappearing on the Wasatch Front, for deer and Moose.
